On Friday 26th February, the Basque Government released Estrategia de Investigación e Innovación en Salud 2020 (Research and Innovation Strategy in Health 2020) which B+I Strategy was involved with during its development.

A number of distinguished speakers were heard during the presentation, which was held at the Technology Park of Gipuzkoa. Following the opening speech by Basque Premier, Iñigo Urkullu, the Basque Minister of Health, Jon Darpón, detailed the main points of the Research and Innovation Strategy in Health 2020. This Strategy aims to contribute to improving both the health of people and the healthcare system itself in co-operation with universities, scientific-technological players, and industry.

The Research and Innovation Strategy in Health 2020 is structured around four strategic pillars, "Impact, Integration, People and Resources" which sets out to meet the following objectives: 1) achieve greater impact of RD&I activities; 2) greater integration of RD&i in healthcare and education; 3) a better framework with which to motivate professionals to undertake RD&I; and 4) a greater involvement with Basque society and a more adequate financing model.
