On Monday 13th November, The Provincial Government of Gipuzkoa (DFG-GFA) organised an information and networking event entitled 'The transfer of power through worker participation'. The event was held under the auspices of the Provincial Government’s initiative, 'Etorkizuna Eraizkiz' (Building the Future).
Employee ownership is an option that should be considered by the many companies in the province who currently require a handover, or what is in essence, a passing of the baton onto their own workers. It is an alternative which ensures both the continuity of the company while helping to strengthen the company’s roots in the community. With this in mind, the main goal of the seminar was to discuss the main advantages, as well as the obstacles and potential leverage that this option may offer.
The event was graced by Sarah Deas, Director of Co-operative Development Scotland, who provided attendees with an insight into Scotland’s success stories in this area. Furthermore, participants heard presentations from guest speakers from three companies based in Gipuzkoa who have recently completed the process of transfer of ownership, and who shared experiences and lessons learned; namely, Ekide S.L., Tarte S.Coop and Industrias Ormola S.A.L.
B + I Strategy was delighted to collaborate in the organisation of the event, by supporting the DFA-GFA in the design and implementation of its 2016-2019 Employee Ownership Strategy.
Presentations were given by the following speakers:
- Sarah Deas, Chief Executive of Co-Operative Development Scotland
- Gorka Sudupe, Managing Director of Industrias Ormola, SAL
- Luis Miguel Arreseigor, Manager of Tarte, S.Coop.
- Joseba Mandaluniz, President of Ekide Group, SL.
