Sabin Azua

Sabin Azua holds a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the IESE (the University of Navarre Institute of Higher Business Studies). He also holds a first degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, ESTE-University of Deusto.
Sabin started his professional career as Deputy General Manager in IDOM, a multinational engineering and consultancy firm.
From IDOM, Sabin moved to the Provincial Government of Bizkaia, serving as Strategic Adviser to the Chairman of the Provincial Government of Bizkaia.
In January 1990, Sabin started a long period of service with KPMG Consulting, where he worked as a Partner in the consultancy department, serving as the Spanish representative on the International Committee of Strategic Services.
In July 2003, he joined BearingPoint as Managing Director of the Strategy and Competitiveness Department where he remained until August 2005 when B+I Strategy was founded. There, he went on to assume the post of Partner and CEO for the first 16 years of company’s trajectory. In 2021, he founded EUSMEX, S.L., a strategic consulting firm focused on executive managers and companies in close co-operation with B+I Strategy to jointly provide services to clients.
In the course of his professional career, Sabin has led numerous strategic thinking processes for national and international clients, such as: CAF Group, Vidrala, Codorníu, the Liberty Group, Fosters, Atlética (Mexico), Elecnor Group, Ence, Guascor Group, Gamesa, Maier, DaimlerChrysler, the Social Council University of Basque Country, Euroforum Escorial, Neiker, Productos Tubulares, Naturcorp, Naturgas Energía, Fagor Industrial y Unión Fenosa, Correos (the Spanish Post Office), the Bilbao Chamber of Commerce, GO, Tavex, Cervecerías Polar (Venezuela), GSB, Abengoa, Selvag (Finland), SOK (Finland), Fanapel (Uruguay), AENA (Spanish public body which manages airports in Spain), Irizar, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Bicicletas de Álava, S.A.,BEC. Bilbao Exhibition Centre, AN´S Coop, and the Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre (the Royal Spanish Mint).
In addition, Sabin has steered a large number of projects in the fields of regional competitiveness and innovation. Those projects brought together various agents for social and economic change, such as: Industrial Planning for the Basque Government Department of Industry, the Competitiveness Plan of the Regional Government of La Rioja, setting up the Basque Agency for Innovation, setting up Euskalit (the Basque Foundation for Quality), a strategic thinking project for COPCA (Consortium for Commercial Promotion of Catalonia), cluster-creation projects in the Basque Country (fishing, knowledge cluster, etc.) as well as elsewhere (Andalucía, Uruguay, etc.)
Sabin is an assiduous speaker at gatherings in the field of business management, business strategy, competitiveness, and innovation.
Sabin is currently a member of the Strategic Management Society (an organization of professionals from Business Schools, consultants, and private enterprise to debate trends in business management), Secretary of the Advisory Council on Business Change of the Basque Agency for Innovation (Innobasque), and a member of the Editorial Council of the Journal of Intellectual Capital. Sabin has written a series of books on the subject of firms’ ability to manage their intangible assets.
